The New Chapter..

I have returned from a transformative speaking opportunity in Brisbane, fuelled by a year of writing about my journey of self-discovery and healing after enduring a failed investigation into my childhood sexual abuse. As I stood before the audience, I reflected on a pivotal moment in my early 30s, surrounded by burly men in high visibility gear on a small plane to Karratha. I found strength in a mantra that carried me through moments of fear and vulnerability, guiding me towards healing.

My journey of reclaiming my voice began as a child, a voice that was stolen from me by abuse. Through starting my own business, raising my children, and facing my past, I found the courage to speak out. Joining a protest march in 2021 opened my eyes to the power of advocacy and inspired me to finally report the assault that haunted me since 1981.

Although the legal system may have failed me, speaking out was a victory in itself. I have learned that sharing my story and being heard is crucial for healing. I stand as a testament to the strength that comes from speaking up and reclaiming one's voice. My aim now is to spark change in how we support and believe survivors of abuse. I am passionate about educating healthcare workers, teachers, parents, and police on how to create a safer and more empathetic world for survivors. Together, we can create a community that listens and supports those who come forward, creating a world where healing and justice is possible. I look forward to sharing more about this new chapter moving forward but with the current conversation around women’s safety this week I couldn’t stay silent. A new direction is coming and I am excited to be contributing to this change. With love Kath
