The Courage to
Speak Your
Truth
Shifting The Narrative on Childhood Sexual Abuse
“I wrote this book for survivors who have run toward success to escape feelings of inadequacy but quickly learned that this approach isn't sustainable. True strength lies in the courage to be yourself and speak your truth. When you do, life will flow with you, not against you. “ Kath Essing
With 15 years of experience as a business consultant and change facilitator, my journey shifted with the arrival of my first child. The decision to run my own business allowed me to remain present with my family and pursue my passion for empowering others. During this period, I realised a long-held dream of writing my first book, "Journey to Self."
This book weaves together the stories of my clients and some of my lessons of overcoming challenges through self-discovery. This book allowed me to jump into the ocean of truth and write my second book, but it took me 10 years to get there. My newest book is available for release in January 2025. The Courage to Speak Your Truth: Shifting the Narrative on Childhood Sexual Abuse
This intensely personal work blends poetry and storytelling to help the reader explore not just the impact on adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse but also on those who are supporting them.
During periods of my healing, I wished there was a book available to communicate a small part of what I was navigating to the people closest to me. Especially when I went to the police about my abuse 4 years ago, this was the book that would have made me feel less alone and helped those around me to understand a small part of the complexity of putting all the pieces of this highly complex puzzle back together.
While I have found peace with my story, the countless experiences shared by clients and workshop participants ignited a desire to change the conversation around this critical issue. So, as a result, this book was born.
It took me 23 years to reclaim my voice, and I am now committed to helping others do the same. Although my story is about remembering, recovering, and reporting my abuse to the police, the conversation is more significant than that. It is about the courage to speak up, regardless of what you want to say.
